Bashame wants to make a rice paddy! Like a big farm! It's just that, Bashame realized something really important - a deer needs only one thing to survive in this modern society, and that thing is - self-sufficiency! So, I've decided to have a rice paddy near the Deer Club that Bashame will take the greatest of care!
Bashame, about herself
Meme Bashame (馬車芽 めめ Bashame Meme) is one of the members of the Deer Club and is a first-year student at Hinominami High School.
She is one of the main characters of the Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan series who made her debut in Chapter 18 of the manga and "Bashame Enrolls" of the anime.
Appearance[]
Bashame has expressive brown eyes with fine eyelashes that frame her eyes, she has an olive green colored neat bob-cut hair that has a two leaf-like ahoge on the top of it. Her bangs are slightly even and parted in the middle, that gently curves to frame her forehead and blend right with the rest of her hair.
Her outfit consists of a warm navy-blue colored traditional japanese school uniform, a yellow scarf-tie is finely tied at the front of the seifuku's collar. Her arms are covered with an almond-brown colored cardigan with a poet type sleeves that fall down to her wrists.
Her skirt is lightly folded and the same color as her seifuku, seemingly to be at mid-thigh. Additionally, she wears neat, and fine white leg warmers at a mid-calf length finally, she wears brown, leather loafers.
Personality[]
Meme can be described as laid-back and sluggish, she has no problem falling asleep almost anywhere, as seen when she was shown asleep on the concrete flooring of the schoolgrounds twice. She is introduced by being asleep in front of the door to the Deer Club, to Torako's horror.
In her debut, she is shown to have little confidence in herself but had some hope of wanting to make an impact on her life after having newly entered high school.
As a result, she was easily swayed by the simple act of kindness presented to her by Noko, who she then immediately starts idolizing to what can be described as somewhat of a passive obsession.
She has a fascination with rice, as she often cooks, eats, and grows rice in the Deer Club, more times being seen with rice than not. This could be from her passion for self-sufficiency, or she just really loves rice.
Abilities[]
- Enhanced immunity - She is able to sleep anywhere and everywhere, usually the cold concrete floor, without getting sick.
- Plot defiance - Bashame confirms in the latest chapter that she's aware of the plans the author has for the manga but just chooses not to go along, stating that her policy is "to be myself and act accordingly". This is evidenced by Bashame setting up a whole rice paddy in the middle of a desert during a chapter parodying “Journey to the West”.
Skillset[]
- Rice-cooking - She is shown cooking rice multiple times. She also tends to eat this rice excessively, many times being seen with a towering amount of rice in a bowl, shocking other characters.
- Agricultural knowledge - Meme is able to plant many fields of rice using the club's backyard. Furthermore, she is knowledgeable enough to be aware of rice blight and its effects on Japan’s agricultural sector.
- Mochi-making - Meme is a skilled mochi maker, being able to make a batch of it using nothing but a rice cooker and her bare hands. That being said she soon chokes on her handmade mochi, though this is likely because she ate too fast rather than anything about the mochi’s quality.
Trivia[]
- Her first name, めめ means "husked grain of rice", while her surname, 馬車芽, means "sprout (of a tree/plant)" befitting her green hair and sprout-like ahoge.
- Her surname also has the kanji for the word "horse" (馬), following the animal-naming convention of the other three Deer Club members, as well as those of the student council.
- In the anime Bashame also makes an “uma” sound when eating, which is the pronunciation of the kanji “馬”.
- Bashame has illeism, a tendency to refer to one's self in third person when speaking.
- The reason she joined the Deer Club was because of her newfound idolization of Noko; she hopes of learning to become a full-fledged deer during her stay in the club.
- Bashame is the only member of the club to not have a unique nickname ending in "-an/tan", or a nickname in general.
- Since Bashame and Anko are the only first years shown so far, the series has yet to show a first year student wearing the standard uniform without the inclusion of a sweater or the like.
- It is revealed in "Summer Deer Festival" that Bashame can not whistle.
- In "DeerColle, Streaming, Hospitality, etc.", it is revealed that her MyTube account picture is a bowl of rice.
