Personality[]

Yoshiharu is a hospitable, kind-hearted, and hardworking man. As he makes it his life's mantra to be able to serve customers as perfectly as he can, ensuring that he makes no error as humanly possible.

He has been upholding this tradition for as long as he has been a bartender at his family cafe, the Swallow Cafe, up until he meets Noko Shikanoko, that is. As all, including his composure, falls apart at the idea of having failed the expectations of a customer for the first time.

Despite all this, he seemingly has a somewhat traditional view of what the younger generation is into, assuming that Noko is like most other high school girls, and puts on J-pop music, replacing the jazz playing before she and Koshi enters the cafe, and even goes out of his way to makes the dessert into a cute-looking deer, assuming Noko would want to post it online.

At the end of their visit, he is advised by Noko how his efforts was what truly mattered, making him change his views on his own service.

History[]

"DeerColle, Streaming, Hospitality, etc."[]

Yoshiharu is first introduced as having the best customer service and cafe in town, with his pride and joy being his hospitality. One day, he is visited by Torako and Noko who came to check out his cafe.

He is taken aback from seeing Noko for the first time, as he has never seen a deer girl before. But, nonetheless, is still determined to give them both customer service they'll never forget.

His self-confidence is immediately targeted when Noko starts voicing out her ridiculous requests, leaving the sole barista inevitably unprepared. Although, he tries to make up for it with what the cafe actually has.

After he was unable to meet the young deer girl's expectations, he admits defeat as he succumbs to the pressure resulting in overfatigue.

Noko reassures him that just serving her like everyone else alone was enough and that she was more than happy during her stay there, making the two form an unlikely friendship while Yoshiharu takes time to reflect on his actions.

Relationships[]

Family[]

Chiharu Tsubameya[]

Chiharu is Yoshiharu's younger sister and a second-year student and treasurer of Hino Minami High School. They live together in the latter's cafe that doubles as the siblings' residences.

Yoshiharu cares deeply for his little sister, and is revealed to actually want her approval as to not seem like a total shut-in who only brews coffee.

Albeit, despite his overcompensations, he seems to regularly fail at doing so, as the younger Tsubameya often has her attention elsewhere.

Members of the Deer Club[]

Noko Shikanoko[]

Yoshiharu is first introduced to Noko when the latter and Torako one day pays a visit to his cafe. He was immediately taken aback, as this was his first time seeing a human-deer hybrid.

Nonetheless, he is still determined to give her and Torako his absolute best customer service. However, he is caught unprepared when Noko's requests seem to be too ridiculous for him to handle, such as wanting an "antler rest" or asking to order deer crackers from a cafe menu.

After admitting defeat, Yoshiharu shrivels down into a husk of the man he once was, but Noko reassures him that him treating her like any other customer is more than she could ever ask for, making the two form an unlikely friendship.

Koshi Torako[]

Yoshiharu first meets Torako when the latter and Noko go to visit his cafe one day.

Unlike Noko, Yoshiharu is sure that whatever stock knowledge he has on what would surely impress high school girls is enough when serving Torako.

Like most of his usual customers, Torako was easily impressed by his hospitality and his culinary prowess. She also notices when Yoshiharu starts succumbing to the pressure of Noko's unattainable requests.

Trivia[]

  • His surname, Tsubameya, is the Japanese term for the swallow bird, it is also what his cafe is named after.
    • His first name, Yoshiharu, means "joy/pleasure" - befitting the nature of the customer service he provides.
  • His seiyuu, Takuya Eguchi, is best known for voicing Loid Forger from the animated series, SPY×FAMILY.
    • He shares his English dub voice actor with Tsunoda, as both are voiced by Josh Portillo.
  • In the anime, it is revealed he was on the cover photo of the September 2022 issue of Hino-zine for his coffee and service.
  • Because his debut chapter was adapted much later into the anime, the cameo from "The Deer Club in the Crosshairs" marks the first time the Swallow Cafe is shown in the anime, as opposed to what would have been an adaptation of this chapter.
    • In the anime, the cafe was also made into a hybrid of also being the Tsubameya family household.
    • It is also worth noting that it was Yoshiharu himself who is shown reacting surprised and asking what made his sister, Tsubameya Chiharu, blush so happily after she returns from school. However, in the anime, this was an offscreen voice instead.
  • Despite his overthinking and desire for perfection, he is one of the three characters (along with Torako Koshi and Neko Nekoyamada) who is also self-aware of Shikanoko's logic-defying antics.
